Les Gets is an easy 75-minute drive from Geneva airport, most of the journey by motorway; you won't find yourself winding for miles round hairpin bends to get there.

Several companies offer transfers from the airport, including www.skitransfers.com.

Hiring a car at Geneva is very straightforward and the route easy to follow.

The road journey from Calais takes about eight to nine hours via Reims, Dijon, Dole and Nantua. As you approach Geneva, stay in France and follow signs for the Tunnel du Mont Blanc. From the A40 motorway, exit at Scionzier and follow signs to Les Gets through Cluses and Taningues.

After the rain: the view across the valley from the terrace, July 2007

La Ferme des Amis is in a peaceful location on the edge of the village, with views across the trees to farms on the other side of the valley. Although the setting is rural, the farmhouse is not isolated; the free shuttle bus stops right outside, while it takes about 20 minutes to walk into the village centre. The nearest shop, 15 minutes' walk away, is a well-stocked general grocery store that sells fresh produce and bread baked on the premises.
